The need for strengthened multilateralism is more important than ever to address the complex, interrelated challenges of our time. However, declining trust in international cooperation, including tensions between the global North and South, has created significant obstacles in addressing these challenges. Multilateral platforms are struggling to bridge the growing gaps between differing priorities, particularly in the context of competing development paradigms and responses to global crises. There is an urgent need to restore trust and redefine the framework for international negotiations to promote fairer and more effective multilateral cooperation.

The Accelerator Lab, held as part of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2024, facilitated a participatory dialogue focused on the critical issue of trust in international negotiation processes and explored the challenges and opportunities for restoring the trust essential for a fair and effective multilateral system.
